Independent + Dependent Illumination

Independent illumination means that a separate electrical signal or switch powers the lamp, regardless of what function the switch is performing at any one time. For example, the independent lamp might be wired to the dash lights of a vehicle to make the switch visible in the dark. Or it could be used as a driving light switch with the independent lamp signaling when the headlights are active. The independent + dependent switches enable a pilot light to be illuminated and an additional lamp to be illuminated when the switch is actuated. There are also many other combinations and uses for switching and illumination.
